Neat things to see in Penn. and Maryland?
Hi. We will be visiting Gettysburg. My husband is a huge civil war buff. Then,off to Maryland. I love lighthouses. Please let us know about some must-see interesting sites that you have seen that may interest us as well. We are traveling next week. Thanks!
Your husband might also enjoy a detour to Harpers Ferry, WV, site of John Brown's raid. It's probably only about 45 minutes from Gettysburg. South on 15 to Frederick, MD, then west on 340.
Also, Antietam is only a few miles away in MD.
If you're a Nora Roberts fan, you might be interested in knowing her family owns a small bookstore in Boonsboro, which of course specializes in Nora Roberts books.

I stumbled on that while on my way to Antietam.
People mentioned St. Michael's which is on the Chesapeake Bay. To get there from the Frederick area you'd probably go through Baltimore, and of course there's plenty of interesting stuff to do there, especially down near the harbor area. From Baltimore it's down route 97 to Annapolis and the Bay.
Just remembered another little off-the-beaten trail site that's near this route. The spy agency NSA opened a cryptology museum near Baltimore-Washington Airport. That's a fascinating place.
