Value of Johann Georg Kessler Violin?
I recently got a Johann Georg Kessler violin from an estate. It has no date in it. Only a sign that says "Johann Georg Kessler West Germany." Also it has a picture of a lighthouse that has "Bruno means Security". Could someone please give me any information as to how old and what value my violin could be? thank you...
Well, following the end of World War II, Germany was divided into American, French, British and Soviet spheres of occupation. In 1949, the U.S., French and British sectors were combined to become West Germany while the Soviet sector became East Germany. So if your violin says "West Germany" on the label, it can't be any older than 1949 at the most. And West Germany and East Germany were reunited in 1990. If your violin had been made before 1949 or more recently than 1990, it would just say "Germany" on the label.
So at the very least we know that your fiddle was made sometime between 1949 and 1990.
Elderly Instruments, in Lansing, MI, lists a Johann Georg Kessler violin, made in the 1950's-60's in very good condition for sale for $975.00: http://elderly.com/vintage/items/110U-5325.htm
Another Johann Georg Kessler violin was valued at $325.00 at an auction in 2001: http://www.dargate.com/archivecats/musicinstruments.htm
Without seeing YOUR violin and evaluating its condition, its hard to say what its worth. But judging from these 2 examples, Johann Georg Kessler violins seem to be decent student level violins, most likely in the $1,000 or less price range.
But you should take it to a reputable violin shop and get it appraised if you really want to know its value.
The New Seven Wonders of the World
The New Seven Wonders of the World is something that the numerous people would like to see. Travelers enjoy to see the 7 New Wonders if they go via river or ocean cruise. In the year 2007, July the results of the New 7 Wonders of the World were publicized in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal. It was in the year 2009 that the campaign was started to select the new 7 man-made wonders of the world. The people all around the globe came forward to nominate their favorite choices. In January 2006 the International panel of judges was formed. These 21 finalists were later on posted at the site of New 7 Wonders. There were more than 100 million votes from all around the globe which decided upon the seven winners.
The notion of choosing the New 7 Wonders was derived by the Ancient 7 Wonders of the World; these were compiled in 200 B.C by Philon of Byzantium. The list given by Philon was used as a travel guide by other people in Athens, it was seen that all the sites which were man-made were situated in the Mediterranean Sea basin. Regrettably, now only one of the original 7 wonders of the olden world is in existence today, this is The Pyramids of Egypt. The other 6 early wonders were: the Temple of Artemis, the Lighthouse of Alexandria, the Statue of Zeus, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Colossus of Rhodes, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus.
