Shipwreck in Aruba?
If you've ever been to Aruba, as you are going from the lighthouse twoards the highrise hotels, a little before the marriott there will be a shipwreck all the way out of the ocean called the antilla. A little up from there is another shipwreck about 20-30 feet off shore. It is in shallow water and almost all of the boat is sticking out. it's not split in half or tilted to its side or anything its normal. The whole boat is rusted and i'd say the boat is about 30 feet long. Does anyone know the name of it and has anyone gone snorkling around it? if so how deep is the water around there and what type of sea life is around there?
That would be the Baboo. It was spit out by the sea in 1999, when Aruba had a run in with a tropical storm. Could be a hurricane too, I don't remember exactly. I do know it (so the storm) caused quite a bit of damage on the southern part of the island. You know the row of houses on the other side of the beach you are describing? Well, they had waves crashing against their front doors. Apparently the Baboo was sunk a couple of years before to form a kind of artificial reef, but well, guess the sea had other plans with it. I have personally never snorkeled there and it doesn't look as if there is much to see, but it seems to be really shallow. Good luck.
