Lighthouses Bed And Breakfast
lighthouses bed and breakfast
What happened to the Lighthouses?
There used to be so many. Now many are going dark. Why? Are there any still being used (as more than Bed and Breakfasts)?
Most are not being used because of navigational technology, such as LORAN-A...but they are still loved by the communities surrounding them. (There is also an organization in Colorado that is currently building a series of Working Lighthouses.)
There is a series of historical fiction based on a lighthouse off the coast of Georgia...San Simeon Island. Eugenia Price wrote those - and they brought hours of enjoyment to me as a child. I used to take my fifth grade classes to Pigeon Point Lighthouse, south of San Francisco, too.
