Which books would you recommend?

I have to choose two outside reading books for class. My options for the first book are:

Cormac McCarthy is a master storyteller, I haven't read The Crossing but its sure to be good. Slaughterhouse Five is also great if not sufficiently cynical and somewhat nihilistic.

Hardy is a good author but I cannot stand Tess of the D'Urbervilles. However, if you're into teenage heartbreak, abounding dramatic tragedy, and the depressingly inescapable nature of the human condition (all set in the 19th century by the way) then go for it. I'd go with good ol' Willy.

The sea along the coast of Havelock is greatly known for the diving possibilities. The underwater world is home to a variety of marine lives, which allures divers to plunge into the sea. Some major diving sites are Lighthouse, Pilot Reef, Mac Point, Minerva Ledge and Turtle Bay where divers can even explore the marine world in the night when lobsters, squid and stingray get active. Go kayaking, fishing, trekking, boating, scuba-diving and snorkeling in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park in Wandoor preserves the tropical eco-system under threat all over the globe. The Havelock Island which boasts of the two prominent beaches Radhanagar and Vijaynagar are perfect for beach walkers, doze under the shade a of sun-umbrella and relish a chilly beer and sea-food, available on the beach restaurants.
