Lighthouses Jeremy

Can anyone offer me some advice for lighthouse photography?

I live in New England, which is full of lighthouses. I would love to go out and take some amazing photos of them, but I'm a little lost for ideas on how to take a really interesting photos. I'm wondering if anyone out there could offer some advice (maybe on angles and composition). I plan to take these primary in low light or inclement weather.

I love the photography of Jeremy D'Entremont, Guichard Jean and Philip Plisson. Some of their photos are taken by helicopter or boat (which I don't have as an option), but I would like to achieve the same type of artistic expression. Any ideas?

My advice is simply to get a tripod, wait until twilight, compose a shot and take a long exposure pic. If the lighthouse is active then make sure there's still a bit of daylight and that it's not all glare from its own light. I don't know how inclement you want the weather to be but fog or mist would diffuse the light and create a good effect even in the dead of night. Rain on the other hand is difficult to photograph and rarely looks good.

Here's one I took last year, the exposure is four minutes and the light in the background comes from a port:
