Help with hexagon roof angles?! Pleaseee?
I am making a lighthouse lamp and I am making a hexagonal roof. I can not figure out what the angles of the roof are for the life of me...I want the pitch to be 30 degrees. I want outside point to point to be 2&3/4" and from outside side to other outside side to be 2&1/2" or somewhere near those dimensions. I am using a board 3/16" thick. I need to know the angle to cut the sides of each board at and the angles to cut each triangle of the hexagon at. Any help would be AMAZING. I have tried this 4 different times...
i think lisa didn't understand the problem.
what you're asking is for the angles of each of the 6 isosceles triangles, and the height of the triangle.
however, there is a problem.
you can either define the length of each side, or you can define the distance across, from one side to the other, but not both.
for example, if you want each side to be 2 3/4 then the distance between opposite sides will be 2*2.75 = 5 1/2"
if you want the distance across to be 2 1/2, then each side will be 1 1/4"
that's how the geometry works.
in either case, if you make the height of each of the triangles to be the same length as the base, then you should get a 30 degree pitch. The base angles will be a bit over 63 degrees, and the top angle will be a bit under 54 degrees.
