HELP on picking out a book to read!?

I am in an A.P English 11 class. I have to pick out of this list of books to read and report on it by the end of the month. I want a book that is exciting and moves fast and is easy to understand. Here is the list:
Walter Scott: Ivanhoe
Virginia Woolf: To the Lighthouse
James Joyce: Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
C.S Lewis: Till We Have Faces
E.M Forster: A Room With a View
Evelyn Waugh: Brideshead Revisited
Kazuo Ishiguro: The Remains of the Day
Ian McEwan: Atonement

Please give your suggestions, thanks :)
p.s its a british literature class, so yes all of these books are semi boring

No choices from American Lit? Sad.

Of these choices, Ivanhoe probably best fits your needs. The rest are all stuffy British things about manners and morals and tragedy and unrequitted love and all that Merchant-Ivory Victorian-Edwardian crap (which I actually appreciate, just playing devil's advocate).

Portrait of the Artist is wonderful and fairly fast-paced -- if you can't get Ivanhoe, it's a worthy second choice.

These are the closest thing to "guy books" on the list, btw.

Lloyd's Register Fairplay How Tracking Vessel Movements Works

Keeping track of vessel movements at sea is vital to international commerce and shipping. Close to the coast, vessel tracking provides a clear picture of level of traffic in a region and the status of all ships in the area. Further away from the coast, it provides information that could be vital in saving lives in case of disaster as well as keeping company's up to date on the status of their cargo.

Though the principle behind vessel tracking remain the same no matter where a ship is on its journey, there are two different systems for monitoring vessel movements. In this article we'll be describing the most commonplace system, used by vessels around the world.

Automatic Identification System (AIS) is a short-range system that is used around the world to track traffic around coastal regions. Transponders fitted to ships automatically broadcast information like speed, position and navigational status via a VHF transmitter. This information is gathered from sensors on the ship itself, such as a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver or the ship's gyrocompass. Other information such as vessel name and AIS call sign is programmed in at the point of installation.

The AIS transceiver sends navigational data every 2 to 10 seconds whilst the ship is underway. Whilst the ship is at anchor this is reduced to every three minutes, with the transceiver automatically updating the status depending on the data it receives from the ship. Other information such as the ship identification system, the type of positioning system in use on the ship, the type of ship or cargo, or the ultimate destination and ETA of the ship is transmitted every six minutes.

It's primary use is in collision avoidance; data received via the AIS system can be integrated with a radar display or electronic chart, providing a clear image of the size, type, speed and heading of ships in the area. As larger ships can take a long time to make alterations, it is extremely important in providing traffic awareness in busy waters or harbours.

AIS broadcasts can also be made from objects other than vessels. Lighthouses, buoys, platforms or coastal installations of any type can be fitted with AIS systems and serve as useful navigational aids for ships. The broadcasts can include information on hazards that are invisible from the ocean surface and can be updated as needed.

This system is extremely useful for marine search and rescues operations. As well as providing information on the ship or individual in distress, it can be used to quickly discern which vessels are in the vicinity and their position and status. Although limited by VHF radio range, this can even help vessels deep at sea as long as other AIS equipped ships are in the area.

Another area where AIS information has proven vital is in accident investigation. Companies seeking to make insurance claims on lost vessels or cargo can benefit massively from the data that AIS provides when trying to ascertain the exact circumstances before an accident. It supplies a detailed picture of ship movements until just before accidents such as collisions or grounding incidents.
