Cape Cod's Lighthouse Beach?
I went to Cape Cod's Lighthouse Beach Water last year during the last week of July. Plenty of time for the water to heat up. But it was numbingly cold. Someone told me that, because of the tradewinds, or whaatever, the water their is always flowing south from the artic, so it's ALWAYS cold. Is this true or did we just catch a bad week?

When folks up here talk about warm beach water I have found it is VERY subjective. They compare it to the options in New England. So what is warm to them is not warm to people used to other beaches. When I saw this question I knew I had to answer as it drove me nutz my first few years up here!
I grew up in New York and swimming Long Island WARM water beaches. While I have been here since college, think our actual beaches are the nicest, to this day I laugh when folks talk about warm water here. Some beaches are a tad less freezing than others. If you go on 90+ degree days it can be pleasant. But it will NEVER be the type of warm folks from outside MA/this part of New England think of as warm!!!! 
Folks here always argue the difference between beaches on the Ocean side and the bay side. The bay ones are def calmer with little or no waves. Some say they are warmer but to me it is a really minor difference and I like usually like waves at my beaches!
But you were at a beach I love. Hope you at least enjoyed the pristine sands and walks along the water.
PS forgot a tip of how I always go to the Cape when it's more than a day trip. I stay at a place with a nice pool,spend part of the day at the beach enjoying the sand, sounds, walks along the shore etc. Then we go back and hang out for a couple hours at the hotel pool, swim in nice comfy waters and easy to go to room to shower and clean up!!! Makes for a perfect day IMHO!
