Canon Rebel XT HELP!!?
Today is a cloudy day with a little bit of light trying to break through!
I want to take some pictures down by the lake of a bridge and lighthouse, So I need to know what settings or mode I should adjust the camera to so my pictures have the right lighting and exposer to them.
I also have a sunpak 58mm ultraviolet lens would that help if I used it?

The XT has lots of modes, so maybe this is a good opportunity to experiment. The nice thing with digital is that if you have a decent size memory card you can shoot to your heart's content, and all it costs is your time.
Having said that, Program ("P") is a good place to start. It will give you a good average exposure and select a aperture and shutter speed for you. Often for landscapes you want a larger depth of field. The XT has a landscape mode, which gives you a larger depth of field, putting more of the subject in focus.
When you might be dealing with bits of sunlight poking through, the camera's auto exposure might not be good enough. Consider reading up on Auto Exposure Bracketing in the manual. It allows you to set the camera and then take three pictures, one a little more exposed, one a little less exposed.
Also, make sure you know how to change the ISO setting. ISO settings of up to 400 are OK on the XT, above that and you may introduce noise into the picture. If it is too dark, since it is overcast, go to ISO 200 or even 400 if need be. If you have a tripod and you are photographing a stationary object, you can keep it at 100 and use a slower shutter speed.
