Lighthouses Projects

Programs like LightHouse Project?
I'm looking to host (and potentially adopt) a child. I love the Lighthouse Project, but are there any other organizations that do that as well?
World Orphan Project, Inc is a nonprofit that brings children from Ukrainian orphanages to America to spend a summer in a family. Like the Lighthouse Project, this is likely to be the child's only chance at being adopted. Their website is http://www.worldorphanproject.com/.
They have a lot of programs to help Ukrainian orphans, those that are adopted as well as those who stay in the orphanage until they are streeted at the age of 16.
I believe that many of the large international adoption agencies also have hosting programs. Some of the more prominient not only for the children they place in families but for the humanitarian work they do for the children who remain in the orphanages are WACAP, Holt International, and Children's Hope International.
Many people on YA take issue with International adoption, but the facts are there are millions of children living in orphanages across the world. Most of these children will not be adopted and the statistics for what the future holds for these kids are heart breaking to say the least. It is true there are foster children in the US who also need families, but in my opinion children are children regardless of where they are born and they all deserve an opportunity to have a family.

Home Improvement Projects For Hit Tv Show Grand Designs!
Hit TV Show Grand Designs Needs Your Home Improvement Projects
The producers of Kevin McCloud's Grand Designs are looking for interesting and unusual domestic home improvement projects to feature on forthcoming series of the award-winning programme. They are keen to hear from RIBA members who are working on projects they may think suitable, or indeed they are building themselves!
Red House TV looking for people renovating their homes
Red House TV are making a brand new property series for Channel Five and we're looking for people who are about to carry out home improvements to their homes. We're the team behind shows such as Grand Designs and Build a New Life in the Country.
We are particularly looking for people who are going to be carrying out home improvements this summer; between May and August. We want to hear from people who are frustrated with the lay out of their home and don't have enough space, but instead of moving they are extending, converting their loft or knocking rooms into one.
Our exciting new home improvements show will give people the chance to play with the layout of their homes and receive invaluable advice from an expert architectural designer.
Tiger Aspect Productions seeking period properties
Tiger Aspect Productions are developing an exciting new TV Restoration series for Channel 4. We are looking to find a number of unique properties with either historical or architectural significance that are to be restored this year and turned into homes.
We are planning to follow and film the renovation process from start to finish over approximately a six month period and within the show, talk about the history of the property. The series will be presented by a well known architect.
We are looking for a variety of small scale, dream property projects as diverse as toilet blocks, follies, windmills, lighthouses, barns, post offices, water towers, and signal boxes etc that have been recently acquired and are to be restored for residential use. We are, of course, flexible in all of this and are keen to hear from anyone with an unusual property who is about to embark on home improvements or renovations.
Our show is going to be a flagship property show on Channel 4, on a par with Grand Designs, but instead of new buildings, we will look at period buildings and talk about the history surrounding that building.
If you are working on anything like this or know of any projects please contact us.
Architecture Magazines Seek Architects' Projects for Publication
At the present time we are currently seeking articles for our magazines: Architects Datafile and Selfbuilder & Homemaker.
For Architects Datafile magazine the projects could range from large civic developments, to private homes, from conception to completion.
As regards Selfbuilder & Homemaker magazine, we would be looking for interesting residential projects, either extensions or total self build projects. In this instance, we would write an editorial feature, and photograph the project.
The architect's name would be credited against the relevant article within the magazine when published. There is no cost involved to RIBA members.
Channel 4 searches for the “Face” of Overseas Property Developing
Channel 4 is currently looking for experts to present their new primetime television series.
The series will follow British amateur property developers as they buy properties in Europe to renovate for investment purposes. They may plan to sell the property on, rent it out or open a guest house. The key to the series is that they are buying and renovating with a view to making money from the property.
To both commentate on and guide the amateur property developers, the company is looking for an undiscovered talent who will be the face of the series. The expert will ideally have experience working on European renovation projects and will be able to give practical advice to the amateur property developers.
If anyone feels they fit any of these descriptions, or knows anyone who may be suitable they can contact:
Wanted: Beautiful House Interiors!
Richard Seymour, a photographer, has now joined forces with interiors journalist Katy White to photograph and write editorial features on stylish or interesting houses for various home interest magazines. They are currently seeking new residential projects that architectural practices may have been involved with - spectacular individual rooms, bathrooms or kitchen extensions are particularly sought after.
These articles, when published, will provide an opportunity for the architect to get a credit at the end of the piece, providing valuable free marketing, and they will supply the practice with a free set of professional colour photos from the shoot for their own use. As they are paid a fee by the magazines for this work, there is no cost to RIBA members.
