How can I add perspective to these sketches?

These are 2 sketches of a painting of a lighthouse I want to do. How can I add more perspective to these sketches??

Also how is my shading/coloring on this leaf?? http://flickr.com/photos/carrierox4ever13/3063490419/in/photostream/
I know its basic its just a sketch. I am going to add lots of color, shading, and depth when I paint it...

For the first sketch, I would add a reflection of the sun off the water, because otherwise it will look like it's "sinking". Also, the boat next to the lighthouse is too big, in fact, it looks like it may be bigger than the lighthouse itself! Assuming that the boat is right next to the lighthouse, make it about 1/3 the size of what it is, because the lighthouse is pretty far off, so the boat should mirror that.

Your horizon line is good, but make the side of the boat thats closer to the vanishing point smaller (if you don't know what a vanishing point is, look it up, it will help your balance of perspective a lot). If you divide your horizon line into 4 parts, your vanishing point in this picture would be 3/4 of the way across the horizon line (I hope that makes sense!) Therefore, the right side of the boat should be a lot smaller than the left, as it is closer to the vanishing point.

Good luck, I'm sure your painting will turn out great!

Crossing open waters has always been a dangerous undertaking, but drawing close to the destination is the most hazardous part of the sailor's journey. Reaching the right harbor during the night and knowing how to avoid razor-sharp rocks or reefs is a task that can defeat the most experienced navigator--often with fatal results...
