What was the name of the film about plants that came alive after a meteor shower and killed everyone?

its really old and my nan showed me it on her video casette player
i remember some of the plot like the guy who was blind and got eye surgery
and the little girl who slept through the storm
and some random other people who lived in a lighthouse
something about trifords or something... please help soon!
