Best rocky beach to visit in Maine?
I have this perfect picture in my head and I'm trying to find a location to match it. I imagine staying in a bed and breakfast either over looking a rocky beach, or in a quaint town close to the beach. I imagine walking to lighthouses. I imagine picturesque harbors. I don't want a place that is too touristy, nor do i want a place that is too small. any suggestions? We're going next year... probably late summer/early fall.
My suggestion is to visit Bar Harbor http://www.barharborinfo.com/ and stay here http://www.saltairinn.com/. You will enjoy Acadia National Park. The town of Bar Harbor does cater to tourists (as many Maine beachtowns do). It is stunning in the Bar Harbor area!
If you don't want to go that far north, consider visiting Kennebunkport http://www.visitthekennebunks.com/. A great B&B on a quiet cove is http://www.buffleheadcove.com/.
Enjoy your vacation! It's a beautiful part of the country.
