Tell me about Eureka, CA? Is it nice?
I am planning a trip out to California...and I am always loking for interesting places. I have read a little bit about Eureka, and further north to a place called Trinidad where Humboldt's lighthouse is. What can you tell me about the area?
Good or bad, I want reviews of all types.
Thank you but I have googled Eureka, I want firsthand accounts...details you can't get without talking to someone who has been there.
I live near Eureka and the area definitely has some benefits... but I am going to start with the cons. There is a huge drug culture in Mendocino and Humboldt counties, based on the marijuana industry. This has led to increases in other drugs, crime, poverty, and unemployment. People are also very open about it, so you would probably see people smoking marijuana openly. Now, for the pros. There are some very interesting areas, most notably the redwood forests south and north of Eureka. Also you can see much of Northern California's rugged coastline here. There are also sites of historical nature, such as Scotia (the last company owned town) with museums based on the history of redwood logging. Ferndale is a beautiful Victorian town (shown both in Outbreak and The Majestic). Eureka also has many Victorian houses, as well as being home to Humboldt Bay. Trinidad is near more redwood forests, and is a very neat coastal town.
