Lighthouses Vacation Spots

Which OBX town fits our needs best?

We are looking for a family vacation spot, and are not sure which town is best for us. We would like it to not be busy, but still have access to restaurants, and stores. I figure some people will get bored of the beach everyday. We are looking to rent an 8-10 bedroom house. Not worried about the cost, just want the right location. I know some will want to go see the Museum, and the Lighthouse, are they far from the northern towns? Since we will be ranging from 88 years old down to a 1 year old, we would like some where to relax, but still go in for a nice dinner, without having to drive 40 minutes. Thanks in advance for your help!

I think your best bets would be:

#1: Corolla/Duck - the newest of the developments on the OBX. About 15 miles between the two and is a very nice area that would have all you want without all the crowds you would find in Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills.

#2: Ocracoke Island: My personal favorite. Accessible only by ferry. Can put your car on the ferry at Hatteras or Swans Quarter on the mainland. Best beaches in NC - they are part of the National Park and, as such, have no commercial development on them. Town of Ocracoke is a very neat little town with plenty to do and good restaurants.
