So who thinks the New York Islanders will ultimately get the new Lighthouse project approved, and stay on LI?
The Lighthouse is a multi-billion dollar project that includes an arena, residences, a minor league ballfield, shopping area and more. Islanders owner Charles Wang has invested millions and it has taken almost eight years with no approval so far.
I want them to stay where they are. I'm more confident of the Coyotes chances of staying put, but if I'm wrong about one of them, I'd prefer it be the Isles. They have a great history up to the mid 80's and it would be an awful shame to see them move. It just wouldn't be the same without them on Long Island (New York).
The reason I'm less confident about their chances is because of my impression of their owner. He doesn't seem like the brightest bulb in the pack and here's hoping that's all by design. I hope he's smart enough to keep them where they are.
There's only one team in all of sports that I want to see get moved and that's the Oakland Athletics to their original home. Otherwise, I don't like teams moving.
