For 1962 the flagship of Morris Island was decommissioned and replaced by Lighthouse Sullivan Island. € ™ s When the U.S. Coast Guard announced it would tear the lighthouse, the people Charleston received a petition to save it.

Lighthouse Island Morris passed into the hands of several owners Private from 1965 until 1999, when an organization called Save the Light bought for $ 75,000. Save the Light has raised over $ 700,000 to preserve Morris Island Lighthouse. What began as a campaign is now a popular base of three hundred members of the organization with money and support of people from as far away as italy.it Save the Light plans to work with the Corps of Army Engineers to preserve lighthouse. can learn more about Save the Light on its website.
